2009 when can you enter?

Postby Mad Cow » 29 Mar 2009 22:25

With just over three months to go, still no sign of entries opening?

Anyone got any idea when the regs are to be published?

Hi
Look on the home page and click on "enter on line" this has been open for some time,as you will see if you look under Entry list.
You will not recieve Regs untill about two weeks before the event.
Look forward to seeing you.(Should not be to difficult to spot if you are riding a cow)
Cheers Dandiy

I go through the same question every year, trying to decide whether it is worth entering the National, having completed it six times since 1986. Most of the time end up not enterng, mainly because it is undoubtedly the least interesting of the rallies (in terms of navigational challenge and roads travelled), but did the Platinum with the special tests last year so may try for that again. I do feel it needs some changes to make it more of a challenge, wondered what others think?

Hi Grim rider
I am surprised that you think this is the least interesting of all the rallies. This is the largest rally that you get to plan your own route on,so you can make it as interesting and as big a challenge as you wish.
You could always try doing it only on B roads or if you use a SAT NAV try "shortest route" that is always fun or perhaps on a much smaller motorcycle the choice is yours.
The present format of this National rally I feel is not bad,the intention I think is to encourage all types of motorcyclist with different levels of experience and I think the present set up does not do a bad job of that
For instance the routes on the RBR are dictated to you by where you live and what your chosen LM is,that is assuming that you wish to take a direct route
All of this is only my opinion and I feel sure other people will see it in a different light
Ride safe

I take something of your point Dandiy but do feel that too much of the national rally involves riding down the same roads to the same laybys - and believe me I have tried different areas in different years, with maps and satnavs and on smaller bikes - the fact that you suggest I make it more interesting by making things more difficult for myself does seem to suggest it is slightly boring :) The fact that numbers have fallen over the years does also seem to encourage me to believe the format needs changing.

I can see both of your points, I suppose if you do the rally year after year it is bound to get a bit 'samey' and Dandiy's suggestions are spot on.
Having spoken with members of the committee on various occasions I know they would welcome any suggestions that may address this issue.

I imagine any event done on a regular basis is going to become slightly predictable.
